Leading people to better life

My Profile

Growing up in South Africa during apartheid, I was surrounded by the juxtaposition between abject poverty and material abundance. I was fortunate to have parents who were both teachers and university educated; they instilled the value of education and other Conservative values. However, I was also surrounded by many poor people. My father was a Head Teacher and he dedicated his life to helping young people out of poverty. He was a big believer in Thatcherism, and the Iron Lady remains the most iconic woman to me.

Despite travelling two hours to and from school every day, I was a top scholar in my class and I went on to attend a top University, which was very rare at the time. It was down to sheer persistence, and my challenging upbringing has built the level of resilience that I now have. I am also very aware of injustice and I want to be the voice for the voiceless as an MP.

My plan for Leyton and Wanstead

As your candidate I aspire to create visible positive change, especially in the less well-off parts that have been neglected. I would use my business experience to grow the business networks and bring new investment to create jobs and apprenticeships for young people. Small business and entrepreneurs are at the heart of our local economy and are responsible for nearly half the job creation in the UK. I will start business breakfasts which will be attended by a Government minister and ensure that small and medium size businesses can have all their concerns heard and obtain the support they need.

I have a big heart for young people and I would focus on their needs as they are tomorrow ‘s leaders.

I will also focus on rebuilding the Whipps Cross hospital as well as creating visible policing to deal with ASB and crime to ensure residents can feel safe.

I will fight to keep our green belt, as it has been our Party principle for many decades. Young people need access to green spaces and I will ensure that we create a future where they can thrive in the local environment.

Whilst I recognise the need to build affordable houses, I totally agree with our Party and my colleagues that this should not come at the expense of our green spaces. I will work with the Housing Minister and local authorities to ensure that urban sprawling that is detrimental to precious spaces is prevented.

Career

After graduation from University, I received an offer from the global accounting firm Deloitte and Touché, and from there on a whole new world opened. I trained as a Technology Auditor, and I worked for 8 years in Johannesburg until I was headhunted by PwC UK in 2011. I settled into Uxbridge and I will never forget the challenges of juggling a demanding career, whilst raising a four-year-old as a single mother. I was successful in my career and I was promoted quickly, and I am now happily married and I run my own advisory business; yet I remain empathetic to the plight of many who are still in need.
